Sushi Rolled with Care

Union Square is an easy place to have a global culinary tour – in a two block radius, passersby will see Brazillian grocery stores, taquerías, a Haitian bakery, and a Korean market bigger than many of our houses. However, there was a notable lack of sushi and Japanese food around the square, and those craving pristine slices of silky smooth sashimi or a bowl of steaming,  slurp-able udon noodles would be out of luck. A Taste of Turkey

Don’t let its size fool you.  About two years old, tiny Istanbul’lu packs huge Turkish flavors into its entire menu.

Located in Teele Square, Istanbul’lu owner and chef Huseyin Akgun serves up what he says could have found in his mother’s kitchen back in Turkey.  And while the fare at Istanbul’lu is traditional, Akgun’s personal history of global travel lends his food a unique twist.   (more…)
